Onam with senior citizens
September 19, 2026
The Vythiri Grama Panchayat governing body celebrated Onam with senior citizens. This was the first time the panchayat organized an Onam celebration together with the members of Sayamprabha Home (daycare center for the elderly). The festivities began at 8:30 AM with the senior citizens gathering to create a floral carpet (Pookkalam).
In the cultural meeting that followed, Facilitator Ansy delivered the welcome address. Ward Member Shaiju presided over the function, and Grama Panchayat President C. V. Rajan inaugurated the event. Ward Members Dolly Jose, Ranjitha Anil, Shiny Devassy, Sini Joji, and Grama Panchayat Vice President Valsala Sadanandan offered their greetings.
The celebration picked up momentum with a performance by folk artist Mathews. The enthusiasm grew further when Sebastian Chettan arrived dressed as King Mahabali. The event featured Thiruvathira dances by the mothers, songs, poetry recitations, musical chairs, Onam songs, and a traditional Onam feast (Onasadhya). The presence of local socio-cultural activists and residents added to the charm of the program.
Organized for the first time under the leadership of the Vythiri Grama Panchayat governing body, this Onam celebration turned out to be a heartwarming occasion of love and togetherness, embracing the elderly community.
